Description

Play CD Method

Digital

(Recommended Setting) Audio is extracted from the CD as digital data, using the method selected in the Advanced Digital Options. Digital data is then converted to an analog signal before it is played.

Analog

The audio signal generated by the CD ROM drive is sent to the computer's sound card where it can be amplified and played or digitized and saved.

Use Error Correction
(digital only)

Some CD-ROM drives introduce errors when reading digital data from your CD. Use this checkbox to turn Error Correction on and off.

With this option on, RealPlayer attempts to correct errors, which takes extra time and can slow down the saving process.

Save CD Method

Choose either Digital or Analog methods. (Same as Play CD Method.)

Note: In some cases, RealPlayer may choose to save in Analog mode due to system limitations. If this occurs,  see Troubleshooting.

Use Error Correction
(digital only)

Same as with Play CD Method, above.

Record Volume
(analog only)

Because Analog Recording Mode saves the sound directly from your sound card, you can adjust the volume for best results. Use the sliding control to adjust the volume up (right) or down (left).

Run a CD Test...

If you are experiencing difficulties with your RealPlayer, you may want to run a test to ensure optimal performance. Load an audio CD into your active drive and click this button to run the test. Your Save CD Method will be adjusted automatically. (Available only when a CD disc is in the active drive.)

Advanced... (Digital Save CD Options)

Offset

Offset the number of frames of audio recorded at the beginning or end of each track. Use this option if your tracks consistently seem cut off at the beginning or end.

Start

Starts saving this number of frames earlier than normal.

End

Stops saving this number of frames later than normal.

Discard Beginning

Starts saving this number of frames after normal beginning.

Spin Up CD

Select to spin a CD to full speed before saving. Some drives begin audio extraction before the CD has fully spun up; selecting this option provides better results in these cases. Use this option if you are having trouble saving the first track of your CD.

Stop saving...

This option aborts the saving process and brings up an error message when error correction fails. With this option off, RealPlayer continues saving regardless of error correction.

Blocks

(Default: 10) Use this option to change the number of data blocks RealPlayer extracts each time it reads the CD.

Performance

Use the sliding control to allocate more (right) or less (left) computer processing power to RealPlayer while it is saving CD tracks.

WARNING: Increasing CPU usage may affect other applications running simultaneously, and can have unpredictable results. Use this option at risk to other data and software on your computer.
