Known Issues
Copy to Device
The Copy to Device feature only works with the devices that appear under the Copy to menu in My Library, RealPlayer Converter, or RealPlayer Downloader.
Uploading
RealPlayer does not allow you to upload videos that already exist on the internet. These files will display a source URL in My Library in either thumbnail or list view.
RealPlayer Trimmer
- Videos from some digital video cameras may not show an audio waveform in the trimmer timeline bar when switching from Thumbnail to Waveform view.
- Videos from some digital video cameras may show green thumbnails in the trimmer timeline bar. This does not affect the actual video trimming.
- It is not possible to trim VOB files at this time.
- If RealPlayer Trimmer is in use when an H.264 codec is installed, RealPlayer Trimmer must be restarted before it will use the codec.
Video downloading/recording
- Firefox versions prior to 3.5.8 are not fully supported. If you have trouble downloading from Firefox, upgrade Firefox.
- If the Download This Video button is not appearing after install, see Customer Support Answer 7303.
- On some websites the Download and Recording function may not work or be available.
- When downloading a video in Firefox with multiple tabs open, the Download This Video button might not appear correctly.
- Cancelling a WMV file background recording may result in an empty video file in My Library.
- The Download button's "Save As" option fails with RealMedia embedded clips.
- The Download button's "Save As" option may cause a crash if used from Internet Explorer 6 or 7 on Windows XP. Clicking the main Download This Video button does not have this issue.
DVD/VCD Burning
- The maximum duration for a DVD burned in RealPlayer is 120 minutes.
- Some computers do not play VCD and SVCD discs.
- If a .mov file is missing length and bitrate information, it will not burn to DVD. Playing the file once before attempting a burn will solve this.
- Burned DVDs may fail to play back in some machines if you select the "Don't include on-screen menus" option.
DVD Playback
- DVD playback works best in RealPlayer Plus with the Plus DVD playback components installed. On computers without the Plus DVD playback components, DVD playback may not work, or may play only the video with no audio. In these cases, if you wish to play DVDs in RealPlayer you will need to upgrade to RealPlayer Plus and install the Plus DVD playback components.
- Seeking during previews on some DVDs may cause RealPlayer to crash or hang.
- Some DVDs show green bars around the content in Theater Mode. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to Tools > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
- Some DVDs burned by RealPlayer SP will not play on Windows Vista. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to Tools > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
- Some DVDs will not play and show a key exchange error. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to Tools > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
RealPlayer Converter
- Some files will show a conversion percentage complete in RealPlayer Converter that is higher than 100%.
- Windows Media clips with uncommon frame widths (such as 427 px) may not convert, even though they play in RealPlayer.
- RealPlayer Converter is designed to convert your personal unprotected VOB files from home videos that have one audio track. Converting from VOB files with multiple audio tracks may have unexpected results.
- RealPlayer Converter cannot convert files with content protection.
Miscellaneous
- Thumbnails for .mov files do not appear in My Library after QuickTime is installed. Over-install RealPlayer to restore the thumbnails.
- AutoPlaylists created in a non-English version of RealPlayer are erased when that RealPlayer is over-installed with an English version of RealPlayer.
- Some portable device firmware is not compatible with renaming a playlist on the device.
- In Windows Vista with QuickTime 7.6 installed, .mov files can cause a crash if they are played back from certain drives. Copying the files to a different drive solves this issue.
- Fast Forward and Rewind do not work on .flv clips.
- Windows Media Player must be installed in order to use Windows Media files.
