Set devices to Mass Storage (MSC)

Some devices need to be set so that your computer sees your device as a disk drive. This might be called MSC, or Mount as USB, or USB Storage.

Apple iPod, iPad, or iPhone

If you have an iPod, iPad, or iPhone, the converted files are automatically added to your iTunes library. Use iTunes to play or transfer the files to your device.

Android smartphones

To copy to most Android smartphones, you need to turn on USB storage. (It might also be called Mount as USB.) These are general steps; details may vary on your phone.

To turn on USB storage:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Look for the USB symbol in the bar at the top of the screen, and drag it down.
  3. Touch USB connected, and then touch Turn on USB storage.
Archos 604 WiFi

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

Connect the device to your computer. Select PC Hard Drive.

To set your device to PC Hard Drive by default:

  1. On the Home screen, select .
  2. The Setup screen opens. Select System (the gears icon).
  3. Under USB preference select PC Hard Drive.
BlackBerry Bold

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. Click Options.
  2. On the Options screen, click Memory.
  3. On the Media Card screen, scroll to Mass Storage Mode Support and select On.
BlackBerry Curve

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. Click Options.
  2. On the Options screen, click Media Card.
  3. On the Memory screen, scroll to Mass Storage Mode Support and select On.
BlackBerry Pearl

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. Click Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, click Options. On the Options screen, click Memory.
  3. On the Memory screen, scroll to Mass Storage Mode Support and select On.
BlackBerry Storm

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. Click Options.
  2. On the Options screen, click Memory.
  3. On the Memory screen, set Mass Storage Mode Support to On. Set Auto Enable Mass Storage Mode When Connected to Yes.
HTC Hero

To copy to the Hero, you need to mount USB storage.

To mount USB storage:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Look for the USB symbol in the notification drawer (top-right). Slide open the notification drawer.
  3. Touch USB connected. Choose Mount.
  4. When you are done, touch Turn off USB storage.
HTC Touch Diamond

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Select Disk Drive.

To set your phone to Disk Drive by default:

  1. Tap Start. On the Start menu, tap Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, tap the Connections tab.
  3. On the Connections screen, tap USB to PC. Tap Disk Drive. Deselect "Ask about connection type...". Tap ok.
Nokia 5800 XpressMusic

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Select Mass storage.

To set your phone to Mass storage by default:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. On the Menu screen, tap Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, tap Connectivity.
  3. On the Connectivity screen, tap USB. Under USB connection mode, select Mass storage. Under Ask on connection, select No.
Nokia N95

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable. Select Data transfer.

To set your phone to Data transfer by default:

  1. On your phone, press the Menu key. On the Menu screen, select Tools.
  2. On the Tools screen, select Connectivity.
  3. On the Connectivity screen, select USB. Under USB mode, select Data transfer. Under Ask on connection, select No.
Nokia E71x

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, press the Home key. On the Menu screen, open Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, open Data Cbl.
  3. On the Data Cable screen, select Data Cable Mode, then change the setting to Mass storage. Press the Exit key.
Nokia E75

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. On your phone, select Mass storage.
Nokia N97

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. On your phone, select and tap Mass storage.
Palm Pre and Palm Pixi

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. On your phone, tap USB Drive.
Samsung Instinct s30

Requirements for video:

This device always uses Mass Storage mode. There is no setting to change.

To prepare your phone for video:

  1. Go to the Sprint software download site and download the USB driver.
  2. Open the file and follow the instructions.

After you have copied videos to your Instinct s30, you can find them under Fun > TV/Video > My Videos > Sideloaded.

Samsung Memoir

Requirements for video:

To enable Mass Storage mode:

  1. On your phone, touch Menu. In the Menu, touch Settings.
  2. On the Settings screen, touch Phone Settings.
  3. Touch USB Settings. Touch Mass storage.
Sony PSP

Requirements for video:

This device always uses Mass Storage mode. There is no setting to change.

T-Mobile Sidekick

Requirements for video:

This device always uses Mass Storage mode. There is no setting to change.

T-Mobile myTouch

To copy to the myTouch, you need to mount USB storage.

To mount USB storage:

  1. Connect your phone to your computer using the USB cable.
  2. Look for the USB symbol in the notification drawer (top-right). Slide open the notification drawer.
  3. Touch USB connected. Choose Mount.
