Known Issues
Copy to Device
- The Copy to Device feature only works with the devices that appear under the Copy to menu in the Library, RealPlayer Converter, or RealDownloader.
- If a file is copied to a device and then deleted, RealPlayer does not mark the file as new the next time the device is connected. The file can be copied to the device manually.
- Windows attempts to use RealPlayer with Palm devices that are set to "Media Sync" mode. This does not work. Palm devices must be set to "USB drive" mode.
- RealPlayer cannot copy pictures to Apple devices.
- Music that has album art in the Library may not display album art in the To Device tab.
- If you make changes to a connected device's contents outside of RealPlayer, such as creating new folders or deleting files using Windows Explorer, changes will not appear in the From Device tab. Copying may fail. To view changes, disconnect and reconnect the device or restart RealPlayer.
Uploading
- RealPlayer does not allow you to upload videos that already exist on the internet. These files will display a source URL in the Library in either thumbnail or list view.
- Music cannot be shared at this time.
RealPlayer Trimmer
- It is not possible to trim WebM files at this time.
- It is not possible to trim MKA files at this time.
- RealPlayer Trimmer does not support subtitles.
- RealPlayer Trimmer features are not fully supported in Windows XP.
- WMV files that use the MSS2 codec cannot be trimmed.
- Videos from some digital video cameras may not show an audio waveform in the trimmer timeline bar when switching from Thumbnail to Waveform view.
- Videos from some digital video cameras may show green thumbnails in the trimmer timeline bar. This does not affect the actual video trimming.
- It is not possible to trim VOB files at this time.
- If RealPlayer Trimmer is in use when an H.264 codec is installed, RealPlayer Trimmer must be restarted before it will use the codec.
- Saving a picture from a WMV or MP4 will result in a black image.
Video downloading/recording
- Firefox versions prior to 3.5.8 are not fully supported. If you have trouble downloading from Firefox, upgrade Firefox.
- In Windows XP, it is not possible to convert files to 3GP from the RealDownloader window. To convert a downloaded file to 3GP, select the file in your Library and click Convert to... in the sidebar.
- In Chrome, downloading from vimeo.com can create a WebM file that does not play. To download a video from vimeo.com, click Switch to Flash Player and download as usual.
- Internet Explorer 9 may need to be restarted in order for the Download This Video button to appear.
- If the Download This Video button is not appearing after install, see Customer Support Answer 8883.
- On some websites the Download and Recording function may not work or be available.
- When downloading a video in Firefox with multiple tabs open, the Download This Video button might not appear correctly.
- Cancelling a WMV file background recording may result in an empty video file in the Library.
- WebM videos can be downloaded, but cannot be played, converted, or trimmed without installing the WebM DirectShow component, or upgrading to RealPlayer Plus 16.
- Within the Facebook Videos view of RealPlayer, the Download This Video button does not always work.
DVD/VCD Burning
- The maximum duration for a DVD burned in RealPlayer is 120 minutes. The maximum duration for an AVCHD disc burned in RealPlayer is 60 minutes.
- Some computers do not play VCD and SVCD discs.
- If a .mov file is missing length and bitrate information, it will not burn to DVD. Playing the file once before attempting a burn will solve this.
- Burned DVDs may fail to play back in some machines if you select the "Don't include on-screen menus" option.
- Six channel audio is not supported for AVCHD burning at this time. Six channel audio is supported for DVD burning.
- DVD burning does not support WebM, MKV, or DivX.
DVD Playback
- DVD playback works best in RealPlayer Plus with the Plus DVD playback components installed. On computers without the Plus DVD playback components, DVD playback may not work, or may play only the video with no audio. In these cases, if you wish to play DVDs in RealPlayer you will need to upgrade to RealPlayer Plus and install the Plus DVD playback components.
- Seeking during previews on some DVDs may cause RealPlayer to crash or hang.
- Some DVDs show green bars around the content in Theater Mode. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
- Some DVDs burned by RealPlayer will not play on Windows Vista. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
- Some DVDs will not play and show a key exchange error. Changing the color space may solve this. Go to > Preferences: DVD. Under Advanced, select RGB.
RealPlayer Converter
- RealPlayer Converter is designed to convert your personal unprotected VOB files from home videos that have one audio track. Converting from VOB files with multiple audio tracks may have unexpected results.
- Some VOB files include audio codecs that RealPlayer Converter is unable to convert.
- At this time, RealPlayer Converter does not support resolutions higher than 1080p.
- At this time, RealPlayer Converter does not support conversion of MKV files that use the MPEG-1 codec.
- Some files will show a conversion percentage complete in RealPlayer Converter that is higher than 100%.
- Windows Media clips with uncommon frame widths (such as 427 px) may not convert, even though they play in RealPlayer.
- RealPlayer Converter cannot convert files with content protection.
- Converting videos shot in portrait mode may have unexpected results.
- Files converted from WAV into any other format do not retain Clip Info. This is a limitation of the WAV format.
Miscellaneous
- Downloaded WebM files can be shared from RealDownloader, but they cannot be shared from the RealPlayer Library.
- RealPlayer does not support multiple audio tracks in AVI files. Playing these files may have unexpected results.
- When working with music in the Library, the sidebar may show a black area. To access the controls in this area, select a clip and right-click.
- The Facebook Videos log-in window does not close automatically when log in is complete. You can close or minimize the window manually.
- After dragging and dropping multiple files onto the Library, the view may not refresh. To see your new media in the Library, visit another area such as Now Playing then return to the Library.
- Scan Disk for Media does not find WebM files. Downloaded WebM files will automatically appear in the Library, and you can still add WebM files to the Library manually.
- The Facebook Videos feature on Windows XP requires Internet Explorer 8 or above. If you are unable to sign in to Facebook from the Facebook Videos view, try upgrading Internet Explorer.
- In the Facebook Videos view of the Library, videos from vimeo.com do not display a thumbnail image.
- Comments made on videos in the Facebook Videos view are not saved to Facebook.
- If a blank page appears when you attempt to sign in to RealPlayer Plus 16, see Customer Support Answer 9223.
- Certain .VOB files cannot be played on computers using Windows XP, and can make RealPlayer unresponsive. This is an issue with Windows that has been fixed in Windows Vista and later.

- AutoPlaylists created in a non-English version of RealPlayer are erased when that RealPlayer is over-installed with an English version of RealPlayer.

- Certain MP3 players with both MTP and MSC settings display different content for each setting when connected to RealPlayer.
- Music and Video Libraries in Windows 7 do not work as Watched Folders in RealPlayer. Choose individual folders instead.
- Music imported while offline will never download album art.
